The Lady in Pink

“Anne, why aren’t you in bed?”

“Oh, Aunt Mari,” Anne whispered rapturously, leaning against the window pane. “Don’t you know? On the last night of winter, The Lady in Pink tiptoes through the forest and awakens spring! The trees glow—like fireflies, but with all the loveliest shades of colors—and they dance together, every rustle of their branches part of a heavenly song!”

“I’ve never heard it,” Aunt Mari sniffed.

“That’s because the music puts everyone into the deepest slumber—.”

“Then you won’t miss anything.”

Anne sighed. “I suppose seeing can’t be much more beautiful than dreaming about it.”

Grateful

I’m grateful for the jungles.
I’m grateful for the swamps.
I’m grateful for the battles—
and how I learned so much.

I’m grateful for the winter days.
I’m grateful for the blues—
The lessons learned in trials
are the ones I wouldn’t choose.

And yet they are the ones that
make me strong beyond compare.
With all that strength I couldn’t
draw from any other well.

I ran across this little poem when I was rummaging today. It may still need a couple tweaks, but I hope you enjoy!

The Magic of Sea Life

It isn’t the weather I miss when I’m inland; it’s the ambiance. The whole experience. The chatter —powerful yet subtle—between sea, sand, and any visitor who happens to have a listening ear.

The water, salty on my throat and sweet on my toes, teases me as the sand drains from my soul everything grimy and dark. Like a sewage suction truck, it pulls the stresses of life through my pores and captures them in its tiny granules. What happens there? I suspect the ugly is composted, like food scraps, into peace.

Where else would the calm come from?

Published in Bella Grace!

I’ve got an article coming out today! The spring issue of Bella Grace, with my article, Beauty in Brokenness will soon grace the shelves of Barnes and Noble bookstores across the country.

Bella Grace, if you haven’t had the chance to read it yet, is a magazine that looks for the beauty in everyday life. It’s for people who like to savor words, think about the journey, and enjoy beautiful photography.

I even made the cover, which I find quite delightful…

If you get a chance to read it, let me know what you think!
