Don’t Be a Goose
“Geese? No. Not this morning.” Mike laid on the horn.
Some jerk behind him yelled.
“Asshole!” Mike gave him the finger, inched through the angry gaggle, and sped off, making the interview with moments to spare.
The boss arrived five minutes late.
“Sorry about this. Goose parade across Main Street. Some bozo couldn’t keep his temper long enough to let them cross. Got ‘em all worked up.”
He rustled some papers. “What do you drive?”
Mike gulped. “A red Civic.”
“Interesting. Saw that same blue Nissan out front. Only car I didn’t recognize.” He frowned. “Sorry. This position was filled.”
As always, many thanks for Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for hosting Friday Fictioneers! Stop over and read a wonderful array of 100-word-fiction pieces based on this photo prompt!
Thats a shame. Tough luck.

Not his lucky day.

Unfortunately, no. Who would have thought the geese were more important than the interview? Thanks for reading and commenting, James!

I know, I know. Why didn’t the boss just hate geese like any normal person would? 😉 Although I think the lies and attitude were the biggest deterrent. Thank you for reading, James!

Great title and fascinating situation. Sorry he didn’t get the job because of the geese — or maybe because he lied 😉 Boss was lucky to find out before he hired him.

Thank you! I imagine it’s better for both parties that things came out sooner rather than later. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Dear Angela,
I love the awkward moment. Perhaps he’ll be a little more patient in traffic next time. Or maybe not. 😉 Well done.

Thank you, Rochelle! I’m not sure if Mike will change, or whether he’ll just see it all as unfair… He may need several nudges before he gets the idea.

Thanks! Yes, I think the boss is pretty perceptive and has good boundaries. Mike could probably benefit (if dragged kicking and screaming) from someone like him, but alas, that door is closed. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

Oooooo
Nicely done with the set up and pay off. That might teach him, then again I’m not sure he’s the type to learn a lesson like that. Well done

Laurie, thank you! I agree. I don’t think Mike would learn quickly, though he’d benefit, I think, from someone like the boss. Maybe fate will force them to work together again in the future and he’ll eventually change. I appreciate your reading and commenting!
