“Pie? Again?” Janie leaned on her elbows and scanned the kitchen. “Every night, the same. Pie. And nothing to show for it except dirty dishes and messy counters. Ugh. I could make cookies, macaroons, truffles, crème brûlée! But nooooooo. Pie. Pie. Pie.”
“Uh, Janie?” Sharon glanced up from her rolling pin. “You ever think of getting a different job?”
The younger girl shrugged.
“I don’t think you’re gonna cut it here—unless we start serving whine with our pies.”
“Ohhhhh! That’s an idea! I love wine.”
Sharon popped a pie into the oven. “You certainly do, hun. You certainly do.”

There are, at least, many different kinds of pie

True! But Janie doesn’t strike me as the sort to see the silver lining…

Perhaps, Janie should be given the opportunity to do the cooking for a week, instead of drinking all the wine and whining. Fun and realistic.

Hehe! I feel she often has the opportunity, but doesn’t often take it… Thanks for the comment, James!

Hahahaha! That was fun. Methinks she needs to work in a different bakery… yanno, one that doesn’t specialize in pie…

Hehe! I know, right? Maybe she’d do better in a place that could better utilized those varied skills. But you gotta start somewhere! :).

I’m thinkin’ Pie ain’t her thing but hey, it’s all part of her repertoire that she is building!

I like a glass of whine with pie. But a change would be nice, I agree.

Pie and Whine. I think people would like that kind of bakery/cafe; it could be quite therapeutic! Maybe Janie will decide to go that route and start her own place. 😉

Why not! Perhaps she should open a cafe called The Pinery!

Cute story, well-told as much for what it said as for what it didn’t say.

A whiner is hard to take. I hope Sharon doesn’t read some of the other stories in this week’s FF and discover what some of our contributors are using for pie filling. Sharon sounds like a very tolerant person, but we all have our limits.

Hehehe! That’s a good point! I wonder what is would take to push her over the pie edge…

I think Janie has the perfect job because I believe there’s genius behind her madness!

Michael, you may be right about that! Janie may actually be the impetus that transforms the little pie shop into something much more…

I enjoyed the voices in your story. I could hear Janie whine and Sharon’s forbearance. A bit of a whine with a piece of pie doesn’t sound bad though, from time to time. 😊

Brenda, thank you! And I think you’re right! If these two ladies could rub off on each other a bit and learn to work together well, I think there could be magic.

Bahahaha love this!
Great set up and pay off. I’m guessing it’s a pie shop ? Nicely done indeed

I’m so glad you enjoyed the story! Yes, it’s a pie shop, although it may be destined for more if these two ladies can figure out how to combined their skills.

Wine would stop the whine I guess 🙂
